Amanda Como for Ward 1

Born and raised in New Jersey, and after having lived up and down the East Coast (GA, CT, DC, VA, NYC), Amanda and her husband Brad established roots in Westfield in December of 2007.
They fell in love with Westfield for its proximity to Manhattan, great school district and charming downtown.
Two children and a dog later, a lot has changed over the course of those fourteen years.
Most recently there seems to be a toxic divide in our town that has trickled down from the national political scene. It’s apparent on our social media, and from having conversations with friends and neighbors, that the community is fractured. A helper by nature, Amanda feels a civic responsibility to set the tone as a leader to help heal that divide. These examples were the impetus for Amanda to run for town council. As councilwoman, she is committed to bipartisanship and practicing acceptance and tolerance of those whose beliefs and opinions differ from her own. She plans to focus on the ways Westfield residents are alike rather than different.
A lifelong learner, Amanda hopes to use the skills she’s honed as a student of personal growth/development and psychology to collaborate with her fellow council members. She is an active listener with strong communication and interpersonal skills making her an ideal candidate for a seat at the table. Her ability to remain level headed and objective during challenging discourse is an asset while working towards a better Westfield. She is committed to leaving ego and emotion out of decision making while seeking compromise and win-win outcomes moving Westfield forward together.
Throughout her fourteen years as a Ward 1 resident, Amanda has volunteered her time extensively in the community. She’s been a member of the Westfield Welcome Club volunteering as their Fundraising Chairperson and a girls basketball coach for the Westfield YMCA, Westfield Recreation Department and the Westfield Basketball Association Travel Program since 2015.  Amanda was also a volunteer softball coach for the Westfield recreation league from 2015-‘18, a Girl Scout leader and a troop Variety Show Coordinator from 2015-‘20. During her children’s years at Franklin Elementary School, she was a class parent multiple times and the Decorating Chairperson for the school’s largest fundraising event.
Throughout her time volunteering in these capacities, she has gotten to know many families, all with varying backgrounds, opinions and approaches. She feels having this awareness will help her have a better pulse on what residents, especially those with children, want to see in Westfield.
Amanda holds a BS from the University of Delaware 1996 and an AAS degree from the Fashion Institute of Technology, New York City 1996.
Prior to becoming a Mom, Amanda was employed by Williams Sonoma Inc. leading customer service and sales teams for both Pottery Barn and West Elm. She has many years of experience managing and working with people.
She is also an entrepreneur and a small business owner, currently the proprietress of Amanda Bradford Home LLC, a decorating service in Westfield, since 2011.
Amanda is a health and fitness enthusiast and enjoys spending time with her family and friends, her Miniature Schnauzer Winston, being outdoors, sporting events and traveling.
Please vote Como for Council in Ward 1 on November 2nd.
We need unity in our community!
